Being Seen Greeting Card  The Quiet Moments Journal

The goal is INCLUSIVITY.  Study after study confirms that being able to see yourself and celebrate the essence of who you are in the products you use, give and receive is affirming, uplifting and absolutely essential to feeling good. Most people have friends, colleagues, co-workers, loved ones and family members that are Black or people of color but oftentimes when picking up a greeting card or thank you notes on the fly at the neighborhood store or big box chain, the product offerings with darker skin tones or realistic features are limited, uninspiring or non-existent. In fact, it’s not uncommon to go into stores and gift shops in areas that have Black and Brown communities of 30% or more and not see a single greeting card that depicts a person of color - yet these stores have Black people and other people of color as regular customers. These scenarios and many others make finding fashionable greeting cards and gift products that reflect culture, heritage, and the flavor of the African American experience a daunting task.

Beyoutifully Brown is committed to changing that as the go-to place for stationery & gift products that celebrate Black identity and people of color in a way that’s authentic and intentional. “We ARE the communities of color that are reflected in our vibrant illustrations and distinct messaging - that includes ownership, designers and writers” says Snow.  “Our collections are designed to provide fresh, innovative ways to celebrate, inspire, and to deepen our bonds of connection and love with those we value most — including ourselves —using beautiful and relatable illustrations, heart, humor, humanity and messages of culture, faith, pride, love, sisterhood, brotherhood and community.”

But it doesn’t stop there! In addition to Beyoutifully Brown’s intentional imagery and messaging, there are three key solutions they provide that sets them apart. First, their “fabulously fashionable and fun” greeting cards, journals, and gifts are deliberately designed for impeccable style and presentation. Founder Snow’s roots in illustration and design are on full display with many products featuring her original artwork, hand embellishments, textured details, shimmering metallic paints, glitter or jewel accents and premium envelopes to create special keepsakes for lasting memories. Beyoutifully Brown recognizes (and research supports) that there is an underserved market for premium and higher-end stationery & gift products featuring people of color. Millennials are leading the charge in spending in this area, and thus impacting future generations to inherently follow suit.

Second, research shows that 8 out of 10 people agree that greeting cards cannot be replaced by social media and 7 out of 10 card buyers surveyed consider greeting cards “absolutely” or “almost” essential, allowing them to connect in a more authentic, meaningful, and lasting way. Beyoutifully Brown gets this so they offer solutions to make the process of sending and receiving paper cards streamlined and easy. Customers can customize notecards by adding their name or business to create personal stationery and they can also add a signature and message to greeting cards for a personal touch. And then Beyoutifully Brown will mail the card directly to the recipient on their behalf for added convenience.

Third, Beyoutifully Brown is committed to “getting in the arena” and operating as a socially and environmentally conscious business. They reuse packing materials and their stationery products are made and printed locally in California using FSC-certified recycled paper. “For every tree that is consumed in the production of our cards, another tree is planted” adds Snow. Beyoutifully Brown also pledges 10% of the proceeds from greeting card sales to organizations and initiatives that are dedicated to social and economic equity, racial injustices, and civil education and engagement. More and more consumers of all backgrounds are making purchasing choices consciously and in line with their values even if that results in a slightly higher price point. For many, that includes a preference for eco-friendly goods produced locally and a growing appreciation for the diversity of our society and correlating representation. Beyoutifully Brown is a company that consumers can feel good about.

About the Company

Although Beyoutifully Brown was launched today, Founder Charissa Snow and her team are not new to the Stationery & Gift industry or to the world of product development, manufacturing + distribution and retail. Years ago when the self-taught artist/mom/volunteer/business woman was planning her son's baby shower and had exhausted every local store without finding any ethnic baby announcements that reflected her style and voice, Snow designed and created her own which led to designing and creating more things for more people.

After many long days and lots of help from family and friends to fulfill the many orders and design requests for her “fabulously fashionable & fun” greeting cards and invitations featuring dynamic women of color, Snow turned her side-hustle into the main-hustle in 2011 and she left her corporate gig to launch her design firm shortly thereafter. Recognizing a void in the market and an overwhelming thirst for consumer products that were diverse & inclusive, Snow quickly became a notable designer and supplier of multicultural stationery products through wholesale, licensing and private label partnerships with well-known premium brands. Her signature-style illustrations and the innovations of her tiny mighty team have received many accolades over the years and have been noted by loyal clients, customers, industry leaders and the press.

Now Snow leads her team in stepping out from behind-the-scenes and entering the direct-to-consumer market with the launch of their beloved brand, Beyoutifully Brown. The collections include some classic popular illustrations as well as dozens of new designs for holidays, special occasions, and everyday sentiments with the same intention - promote self-love, diversity & inclusion, and to foster connections in a way that is meaningful and authentic.

“We represent the notion that each moment is a memory rich in detail and character and that life is too abundant to compromise the delightful ride with digital nods, generic messaging or predictable imagery that doesn’t reflect our beautiful skin tones, distinct voices, pride, awesome hair, diverse shapes and fabulous flair…” notes Founder, Charissa Snow
